Position: Disaster Recovery Consultant

Salary:  $90-$100K base compensation plus bonus potential
Travel: Up to 80%

*****Candidates must have 3-5 years in technology consulting, operations or architecture capacity.  This is a technical hands on position.  The chosen candidate will be expected to be very knowledgeable with hands-on technical consulting (systems architecture, high availability, capacity planning, data center solutions, etc) and not solely interfacing with technical counterparts.

Role Description:
• Lead the analysis of high availability requirements and technology improvement opportunities; the design of fault
tolerant systems architectures and IT operations improvements; and reviews of high availability configurations, capacity management, and service management effectiveness.
• Develop migration strategies to extend a customer's I.T. Infrastructure, systems, processes, and organization to enable high availability and managed services designs.
• Communicate succinctly applicable Business Continuity Management, information security and technology issues to all levels of client and internal staff, on both a formal and informal basis.
• Provide Strategy Evaluation, Design and Implementation consulting to clients.   Present and defend recommendations.
• Understand and address financial impacts of analysis and recommendations.
• Maintain strong subject matter expertise in Internet/Intranet/Electronic
• Commerce applications, service driven architectures, ISP/ASP architectures, networking related technology, wireless
technologies and infrastructure, high availability, load balancing, systems management, clustering, messaging and general large scale infrastructure architecture.
• Successfully manage projects as they are assigned with review of success based upon quality deliverables, meeting project time and cost requirements, while achieving a high degree of customer satisfaction.
• Maintain familiarity and adherence to Company consulting methods and procedures.
• Conduct various BCM engagements (e.g., BIA; Planning; etc.).
• Participate in any and all types of technical consulting engagements (e.g., Business and Technology Profile; Information Availability Strategy Design; Technology Migration and Data Center Services; High Availability Solution Design and Implementation; etc.).
• Interact with clients in presentations, data gathering, and analysis activities.
• Provide project management support, guidance and input for Project Teams.
• Maintain time reporting on projects and provide timely updates to project milestones.
• Continually build knowledge and proficiency in Information Availability concepts and lifecycle services.
• Extensive travel requirements- 80% - Mon through Thurs.

Mandatory Skills:
• The requirements for this position are a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or related field plus
3+  years in technical consulting, management or operations, with strong architectural and process experience in two or more areas;  Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity, Data Centers, Storage or Client Server Virtualization. 
• This Consulting position in the CTS DR Practice must have a strong understanding of the BC/DR discipline and more than one year of hands on experience delivering successful consulting engagement to customers. This position is a resource who has demonstrable experience with presentation, documentation, sales or sales support and consulting service delivery skills. This position must able to participate in a large range of BC/DR consulting projects and will be expected to build appropriate solutions for CTS customers.
• Knowledge must be based on actual current technology and project experience and thought leadership roles. This is not a theory role or merely an SME role. This position needs to be highly consultative in nature and will be expected to directly contribute to the growth of the CTS DR practice through engagement delivery and refinement of its services, methodology and framework.
• Candidate must have strong process, project management and communication skills.  Candidate will be expected to develop white papers and present at Industry Related conferences. Recent experience in this presentation area should be easy to demonstrate.
• Up-to-date CBCP, MBCP and/or other relevant disaster recovery certifications is a serious plus. ITIL knowledge helpful.

Technology Skills:
Experience and expertise expected in the following areas.  While experience in two or more areas is desirable, it is not
necessary to have experience in all areas.
 • Data Center:  Infrastructure Applications (OS, DB, Replication, Data Protection, especially as it relates to Recovery solutions and testing), Consolidation, Power and Cooling, Migration and relocation
• Managed Services:  familiarity with collocation, hosting, outsourcing and managed services concepts, offerings and providers
• Network: WAN, LAN, Load Balancing, Firewalls, switches and routers
• Storage Technologies: Strong experience in storage vendor BC/DR, Disc Storage and replication solutions: e.g., EMC products (SRDF, RecoverPoint, Networker, Avamar, Data Domain), Network Appliance, Sun Storagetek, HP EVA or
Storagework.
• Virtualization: Experience with the leading virtualization technology vendors including Vmware, Microsoft (Hyper-V), Citrix (XenServer) and others. Design, implementation and architecture experience a plus.

Additional Skills:
Generally required are advanced analytical skills, detail orientation and project management, accuracy with good organizational skills. Successful candidates must also possess excellent interpersonal and team based skills, be able to handle multiple responsibilities, prioritize tasks, and work under time constraints in a matrix environment. Proposal development, client sales, service delivery and international work experience is relevant to this position and considered a plus.   Additional skills should include:
 • Experience in analyzing, planning and consulting in technical environments;
• Ability to work unsupervised and provide all requirements in a timely manner;
• Desire to remain current in emerging technologies, products and trends

Position: Senior Disaster Recovery Specialist

This senior level specialist in disaster recovery (DR) oversees development, implementation, testing and maintenance of the company DR strategy. This includes partnering with internal IT and cross-company teams to align processes and procedures within the organization in order to respond to a disaster and recover the critical business functions within the defined RTO/RPOs. This position will also be responsible for participating in any actual disaster recovery effort.

Duties and Responsibilities:.
• Performs accelerated risk assessment and related impact analysis, including the establishment of RTO/RPO.
• Drive DR technical solutions design leveraging internal and external partners. Responsible for DR implementation.
• Establishes disaster recovery testing methodologies; plans and coordinates the testing of recovery support and business resumption procedures in different functional areas. Assures that recovery procedures are effective for the restoration of key corporate resources and for the resumption of critical business processes.
• Provides guidance to and coordinates the efforts of staff members in the development of recovery procedures for key areas of the organization.
• Analyzes and identifies points of vulnerability and recommends disaster avoidance and reduction strategies.
• Periodically reviews changes in corporate resources with the management of those areas to assure the effectiveness of the recovery procedures and backup capabilities.
• Leads the development of IT emergency response procedures.
• Conducts disaster recovery training for staff members in all functional areas. Assists in providing instructional and
informational materials on emergency response for all roles. Provides guidance in the maintenance of a library of recovery support and business resumption procedures.
• Assists recovery support and business resumption staff during a disaster in the implementation of response and alternate operating strategies. Acts as an IT coordinator during an emergency.
• Works with vendors of disaster recovery services and facilities; studies and recommends outside services for use during a disaster situation.
• Maintains contact with outside organizations participating in reciprocal agreements, where appropriate.
• Prescribes IT DR requirements for new environment, systems and/or facilities.
• Provides thought leadership in technology direction, technical services, vendor partnership and industry
standards adoption.
• Provides coordination across teams to encourage application of standards and adherence to standards based methodologies.

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline with ten years of increasing responsibility in technical IT roles required. Four (4) years of additional experience may be substituted for the degree.

Experience:
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience developing, communicating and maintaining DR programs using current techniques and technologies.
• Disaster Recovery and/or Business Continuity experience in a Fortune 500 company preferred.  Certificates,
Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements: CBCP, MBCP CISSP or equivalent is required

Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities that Contribute to Success:

Role Description:
The IT Disaster Recovery (ITDR) program provides services to reduce the business impact of an outage for both The Company and its customers, by minimizing risks and ensuring appropriate resources are in place to recover in the event of an unplanned service interruption It is the process of planning, establishing, testing, and implementing the strategies, processes and procedures imperative to minimize the impact of service unavailability on The Company and its customers.

Position Summary:
The primary objective of the ITDR team is to assist The Company in providing an appropriate, service continuity capability that is consistently monitored to ensure that the detection of any problems or deficiencies which may impact our ability to recover are escalated to the appropriate governing body. The team is involved in a wide variety of tasks and associated responsibilities to understand business requirements and convert these into an appropriately architected, cost aware and tested range of IT services. The team plays an assurance and governance role that assists in ensuring that the company meets regulatory, audit and compliance requirements.

Scope:
Proven experience across a minimum of 75% of the critical department activities outlined below.
1. Process Management 
a. Gather customer’s business and technical disaster recovery requirements and, in cases where such requirements are unavailable, define these requirements based on discussions with the customer
b. Coordination of the service continuity monitoring and reporting framework and management of identified risks
2. Technical Recovery Plans
a.  Provide consultative support to IT teams in preparation and updates to their technical recovery plans
b. Maintain and update all documentation in a central repository to the The Company’s business continuity and disaster recovery program
c. Ensures that all IT infrastructure and application recovery plans are reviewed according to established corporate business continuity management policy and guidelines and updated annually and/or when major infrastructure changes occur
3. Exercising and Training
a. Participate in the coordination of annual exercises of technology, people and processes
b. Maintain records of test results and corrective actions based on those results. Establish testing schedule in alignment with business cycles, environmental changes, seasons, systems changes, and process changes
c. Deliver ongoing annual awareness training to key stakeholders via in-person and web conference presentations
d. Develop, implement and execute business continuity and disaster recovery testing methodologies, scenarios and plans
4. Recovery Arrangements Management
a. Assist in developing and enhancing appropriate recovery strategies which will reduce recovery times for critical services and overall recovery times following loss of a data center
5. Project Engagement
a. Ensure an appropriate level of involvement and oversight in service implementation and upgrades such that the service continuity principles can be upheld
b. Project management and coordination as required of large scale contingency environment improvement projects
6. Knowledge Expertise Provision
a. Provide the business and IT Asset classes with a source of knowledge and guidance in service continuity matters

Qualifications:
Extensive experience as a service continuity analyst or related IT Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity field for a large financial institution, previous to that, further experience in an IT technical based role.

Comprehensive understanding of at least one of the following technical areas with good understanding of all others such that the capabilities and limitations of equipment and software deployed to support the company’s contingency services is understood:
1. Experience in DR Architecture Design and Implementation
2. Storage technologies SAN / NAS Design Experience
3. Good understanding of high level enterprise Network Architecture
