Highlights from the 2015 BCM Event Impact Management Study:
- 63% of the respondents invoked/ activated plans in their Business Continuity Management program in the past year.
- The majority of the study respondents invoked/ activated their plans due to a power outage (48%), ice storm/ winter weather (34%), network/ communication-(28%) and flood-natural (26%).
- Respondents noted on average 10.5 total events in the last year that lead to invoking/ activating their plans.
- 14% of all events lead to a full disaster declaration.
- The greatest impact to the business for all events included facilities or infrastructure (29%), customer service (28%) and operational and/or supply chain disruptions (16%).
- On average respondents noted 37 days in business resumption mode (back to normal business operations) in the last year, while 31% indicated 1-4 days in business resumption mode in the last year.
- 16% of the respondents noted an estimated financial loss of over $100,000.
- 16% of study respondents estimate that their organization would incur more than $1 Million/ hour in total financial losses for every hour of downtime if down for more than 72 hours.
- As a profession we experience increased organizational awareness and executive support following an incident, but we struggle to highlight the increased market share or increased share value as a success factor following an incident.
