Salary: DOE excellent total package

The State Director of EHS will be responsible to provide leadership and direction to divisional operations and sales management in development of an enterprise wide Safety Program. Reporting to the National Director, EHS, this is a highly visible position that will collaborate with staff at all levels of the organization in order to implement a disciplined, proactive and comprehensive safety based culture that will enable Southern to effectively reduce on the job injuries and collisions.
The responsibilities of this position include developing tactical safety improvement plans that target specific reduction efforts; developing, implementing and training on safety policies and procedures for the division and corporate wide; championing and communicating the safety message with front line associates, supervisors and executive leadership. In addition, this position will also support the build out of the corporate program support model which will provide the framework for a common enterprise approach for the governance, development, execution and sustainability of a nationwide safety program.
1. Workers’ Compensation and Auto Liability Incident Reduction
a. Assist team members in developing proactive measures to target incident reductions in WC and AL
b. Communicate plans and obtain support from Divisional Leadership;
c. Track and report results, driving to continuous improvement
2. Policies and Procedures
a. Assist in creating and implementing a consistent EHS management system by developing policies and procedures to enabling the client to build a continuous improvement structure;
b. Ensure EHS policies and procedures are updated, implemented, and followed, ensuring compliance with all Regulatory, Corporate and Divisional requirements in their area of responsibility and assisting other divisions where needed;
c. Assist in developing and implementing corresponding training programs focused on incident reduction;
3. EHS Metrics
a. Assist in developing consistent EHS metrics and key performance indicators that enable executive leadership to assess and track EHS program effectiveness.
b. Where requested work with internal and external providers to establish necessary plans to meet or exceed KPI goals;
c. Consistently communicate with the client’s associates and leadership performance against goals;
d. Lead and drive all the clients’ associates to best in class performance as measured against industry standards;
e. Lead and/or support the ongoing implementation
4. EHS Team Development
a. As part of the EHS leadership team, promote and foster an environment of cooperation and success with all divisional safety resources;
b. Where needed provide direction and assistance to divisional safety resources in their area of responsibility and across all divisions to ensure EHS goals are achieved;
c. Where requested by the National Director of BCP, support program efforts to ensure consistent application of clients BCP policies and procedures;
d. Provide leadership, direction and support to divisional safety staff (dedicated or part-time). Assess and identify appropriate resources and equipment necessary to fully support EHS objectives;
5. DOT Compliance
a. Where needed provide assistance to Director of DOT compliance to ensure all divisions maintain federal DOT compliance;
This position requires a highly-skilled and proven professional with hands-on EHS program execution experience in a large, distributed corporate environment. In addition to having strong analytical, written, presentation and technical skills, the successful candidate must have the ability to build teams, establish credibility, evangelize the program, and communicate effectively within the organization and with external business partners.
Additional requirements for this position include:
•Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in Safety, Environment or Risk Management
•A nationally recognized Safety certification is desirable (ex: CSP, CHMM, CIH)
•Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desirable
•Knowledge and experience in supply chain logistics, warehouse and distribution management is preferred
•Disciplined program, project and time management skills with the proven ability to work in a cross functional, matrixed and diverse workforce environment
•A self-starter, highly motivated individual with the ability to work independently or in a collaborative team environment
•Detail orientated and disciplined to solve complex problems with the ability to resolve issues and drive solutions that create win-win situations
•Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast paced environment while ensuring the security, confidentiality and integrity of sensitive data
•Excellent coaching, teaching and training skills that have the ability to easily convey program concepts, procedures and methodologies
•Budget and contractor management skills
•Flexibility to travel as required
•Proficiency in working with the Microsoft Office tool suite
